Simply put, a Staycation is the act of "vacationing close to home or in your local area." The trend began during the high gas prices of 2008/9 and continues today, due to the tough economic times. However, for hoteliers, this is an opportunity to capture travelers from your local area and "in your backyard."
  Provide a welcome bag upon check-in. Include collateral of local businesses
and attractions (i.e. complimentary drink tickets, buy one get one free coupons, discount vouchers, etc.) as well as
a merchants map. These items are typically available (FREE) at your local Chamber of Commerce or area welcome center.
Some hotels also provide a bounce back coupon, to the hotel, encouraging the guests to book another stay.
